At One with Cofa’s Tree

Pepper Lane, Coventry, 2021

The mural brings together elements representing Coventry's mythic past, tangible present, and imagined future in a dreamlike composition where disparate realities intersect and inspiration is born. - Matt Chu.

Supporting early career artists to have their first commission in the public realm.

Working with Coventry City Council in the lead up to Coventry City of Culture, Sam worked on behalf of Creative Giants to engage the local art community and support the planning and development of a range of new public artworks to ready the city for its year of celebration.

A mural commission was developed in dialogue with the council’s public realm team that could contribute to a wider scheme of uplifting Pepper Lane, a key route from the city centre through to the Cathedral Quarter which had long been left in disrepair.

The 83 m2 mural was hand-painted by Matt Chu on fifteen individual plywood boards, then mounted to the masonry. The accompanying wall colours were also chosen and arranged by the artist.

Prints are now available directly from the artists’s website, here.
