Endless Ribbon
Hertford Street, Coventry, 2021
I experienced a desire for colour in the city and I wanted to get it in the streets. Plus the simplicity of light and colour is always so magical in every location. Community is at the heart of every project I do. We wanted to change perceptions of space by transforming the canopy walkway with fresh bold colour and an abundance of plants. Working with the food traders and surrounding shops, together we wanted to make a new destination for everyone that brings joy to an area that needed some love. - Morag Myerscough
Managing the delivery of a creative scheme led by an internationally renowned artist…
Working with Coventry City Council in the lead up to Coventry City of Culture, Sam worked on behalf of Creative Giants to engage the local art community and support the planning and development of a range of new public artworks to ready the city for its year of celebration.
Hertford Street was a key route into the city from the train station and needed a bold approach to create an inspiring welcome for visitors and locals. Well known for her work engaging with communities and enlivening spaces through creative placemaking, Morag Myerscough was invited by Creative Giants and Coventry City Council to develop a holistic scheme for the area.
Taking inspiration from the city’s post-war architecture, ribbon weaving heritage and the infamous stained glass of the new cathedral designed by John Piper & Patrick Reyntiens. Morag’s Endless Ribbon Connecting Us utilises the existing structure of the canopy to animate the walkway with a dance of colour and light.
Sam supported Morag on behalf of Creative Giants, coordinating all aspects of the project from concept through to delivery.
