Karrusel Courtyard
Karrusel Courtyard is a permanent installation in Coventry’s Grade II Listed train station. A collaboration with Creative Giants' Design Director, Ben Kearns, Sam's playful forms intersect with sensitive architectural design.
This collaboration with Creative Giants was commissioned to breathe new life into an area of the station that had previously been home to a small pond and tree, providing a light-well into the surrounding waiting areas.
Drawing on Coventry’s watchmaking heritage the central circle motif is inspired by the Karrusel element designed and made in Coventry in the 1900’s. The planters and new floor treatment introduce greenery and softscape to juxtapose the hard original Modernist style of the station, whilst the materials have been carefully selected to amplify the existing architecture.
